MCP: Performance Based Testing Pilot Exam (70-113)

Today I received an invitation to register for the new performance based testing pilot exam 70-113 : TS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring.

While trying to register for the exam I found out that the exam is not available (yet) in the Netherlands, so can’t attend the exam. But you probably wondering (just like me) what a Performance based test is. The e-mail I received tells us the following about the new exam type :

Microsoft Learning is testing a new Performance Based testing system that will be integrated into the existing certification programs in order to better evaluate and validate candidates’ skills using Microsoft products and technologies.

The Performance Based testing method we are piloting is an exam which emulates a Windows Server 2008 infrastructure. In this infrastructure you will be tasked with completing a series of tasks. Once complete, the system will evaluate each tasks end-state to determine if the tasks have been completed and correctly implemented. This process is different from simulations because you will have every tool and path available that you would normally have in a real world scenario. Simulations restrict you to a small number of expected paths, whereas emulations allow for any path, as long as the end result is correct.

This pilot exam will not provide you with a score as with normal beta exams. This pilot is a test of the exam experience, delivery system and infrastructure, so only a portion of the final exam will be presented to you during this pilot. This pilot exam will not be added to your transcript and you will need to take the exam in its released form in order to be awarded the credential.

So in normal English : This way you can really show Microsoft what you know, because you are really working in a emulated environment. Let’s hope this method ends cheating (Testking, etc.).

I got my invite today but they’re not delivering it in the UK either at the moment….looks just like the USA which sucks; was looking forward to seeign what it was like..

Just looked and tried other countries as well (Belgium and Germany) and also no entry of 70-113 there, but when you select country US with e.g. state California you see 70-113 in the list – so I think Helmer’s suggestion might be correct: only people from the US.

If you go through the mail it says “Testing is held at Prometric testing centers worldwide, although this exam may not be available in all countries or sites. This pilot is restricted to very limited number of testing centers. We apologize if there are no local test centers participating in this pilot.”

I guess it is not available in India either.

My only question if it was not available to us why did we receive the mail in first place……

Hope someone has answer…..

I too received this invite and I am in the US. Unfortunately they do not currently offer this exam in Florida. I guess I will wait for the live exam.

I called MS India Support they are even not aware such an exam exists.
They asked me to get in touch with prometric for more details
I will be calling them today
will keep all of u posted as this is the only place where people knows abt exam 70-113

Called M$ toll free no but these guys are also unaware of this exam no guided me to call prometric.
Today I called prometric Regional Office for India and they told me there are 5 centers available in India. (as exam is not available on all the centers they have not put it on Website…) And now they are following up me for registering the exam as they were facing some technical issues at that time

My advice for all who received the Invitation is to follow up with your regional Prometric Office and confirm about exam

Wish me luck……
